Creating Greener Neighboorhoods One Tree Planting at a Time

On April 5th, a beautiful Saturday morning, CityTrees and community members gathered to plant 15 trees along Madison Avenue and Hudson Street. Those strolling by might have noticed our CityTrees trailer nestled cozily along Madison Avenue while our CityTrees and community members got to work.
Our planted trees consisted of Pink Dawn Chitalpa, Water Gum, Elegant Water Gum, Chisos Oak, Engelmann Oak, Cork Oak, Netleaf Oak, and Compton Oak.
Several of these trees were in large, 24-inch boxes instead of our usual 15-gallon containers. This made planting them more challenging. Despite this, the team looked incredible working together to get these trees in the ground.

Another group had the tricky task of getting a very root-bound tree out of its container. CityTrees member, James, helped guide volunteers to give this tree the love it needed to hopefully have a healthy, long life.
A huge, hearfelt thanks to our volunteers and tree captains for tackling these challenges!

Did you know that CityTrees is tracking our trees in a database called Tree Plotter? California Releaf has helped CityTrees get access to this program, so we can nurture trees on a grander scale. This helps not only us follow the health and maintenance of our trees, but other organizations as well! You can see the trees planted during this event HERE in Tree Plotter. Another big thanks to our board member, Brooke, for her diligent work entering these trees in!

The planting was a resounding success. Fifteen new trees are gracing Redwood City neighborhoods. CityTrees, local residents, and community members came together to share in their love of trees and bettering the environment. This event was made possible by PG&E, who generously funded the planting to help support Redwood City’s community and urban canopy.
One last BIG thank you to PG&E for sponsoring this event, to all the community members who came out to participate, and our board members for making the event possible.

We can’t wait to see you at future events. Check out our upcoming Prune and Pubs May 22nd and July 11th!
