CityTrees’ Tree-mendous Day at the Port

On a sunny February 8th, the Port of Redwood City saw a transformation as CityTrees partnered with the Board of Port Commissioners to plant native trees in the area. Despite challenges from recent heavy rains, the event was a resounding, though muddy, success! The team planted 12 trees in total: 3 Torrey Pine, 2 Swamp Mallee, 3 New Zealand Christmas Tree, 1 Scarlet Gum, and 3 Paperbark Tree.

These trees were carefully selected to thrive in the unique environment of the Redwood City Port. Over a dozen dedicated volunteers, several CityTrees board members, and Port staff gathered for this green initiative. Their collective efforts will bring lasting shade, vibrant habitats, and natural beauty to the community for decades.

The day was not only about enhancing the port’s aesthetics, but also about fostering a commitment to sustainability and education. Enthusiastic port-goers stopped by to share in the excitement and express their appreciation for the new additions to the landscape.

James Biddle, a passionate CityTrees board member, captivated everyone with his extensive knowledge about trees, underscoring the educational aspect of the event.

All before noon, the team successfully planted twelve new trees. After cleaning up, they left behind a greener, more beautiful port area. This initiative was a testament to the power of community, collaboration and environmental stewardship. A heartfelt thank you to all who contributed to making this day a triumph.
