CityTrees of Redwood City: A Rainy Day, Determined Hearts, and 10 New Trees

CityTrees of Redwood City: A Rainy Day, Determined Hearts, and 10 New Trees

Last Saturday, on January 20, a dedicated group of CityTrees board members and volunteers braved intermittent rain to embark on a unique tree-planting endeavor on Chestnut Street in Redwood City. This extraordinary effort not only added greenery to our community but showcased the commitment and passion of our team.

The Challenge: Unlike the typical 15-gallon tree plantings, our team took on the challenge of planting eight 24-inch box live oak trees. The task was not without its hurdles – with intermittent rain as their companion, the team faced the additional challenge of removing tree stumps deeply embedded in the ground before the new trees could find their roots.

Chestnut Street Transformation: Focused on the 200 to 500 blocks of Chestnut Street, the team worked tirelessly to transform this stretch into a greener, more vibrant space. Despite the unconventional weather conditions, the enthusiasm and determination of our volunteers and board members shone through.

Adapting to Change: Flexibility and adaptability were key as the team navigated the unique circumstances of the day. Their willingness to embrace a different approach to tree planting demonstrated the strength of our CityTrees community and their dedication to enhancing the urban environment.

1238 Clinton: Going Above and Beyond: The commitment didn’t stop on Chestnut Street. Following the successful planting on Chestnut, board members and a passionate volunteer extended their efforts to 1238 Clinton. Here, they planted not one but two trees – a 24-inch box live oak and a 15-gallon silver linden, adding to the green legacy of the area.

Conclusion: CityTrees of Redwood City continues to make a positive impact on our community, one tree at a time. The recent tree-planting event on Chestnut Street showcased the spirit of collaboration, determination, and adaptability that defines our organization. With each tree planted, we contribute to the beauty and sustainability of our city, leaving a lasting legacy for generations to come. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the board members and volunteers whose hard work and dedication made this event a success. Stay tuned for more exciting initiatives as we continue to grow and enhance the urban canopy together.
